The search for bio-actives in indigenous herbs as well as the bioavailability of phenolic compounds have been of great interest to me. I have spent the initial stages of my career learning the techniques, developing methods and building collaborations to investigate indigenous plants. For a couple of years, I then joined the private sector to learn more about applications of bioactive extracts and compounds in the complementary, pharmaceutical industry. The time spent in industry, piqued my interest in the setup and development of validated quality control systems aligned with regulatory requirements (ISO/IEC 17025, SAHPRA). At this stage, I have returned to research and combined all of these new skills and techniques to focus on my great passion, finding nutraceutical applications and formulations for bioactive plant compounds that will ensure their efficacy.
