Kirill G Tkachenko

Kirill Tkachenko – Doctor of Biological Sciences, Prof. In 1979 graduated from the Kazakh State University (Almaty, USSR). He has worked at the Komarov Botanical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) since 1979. The main areas of his scientific interests are a diverse study – essential oil (aromatic) and medicinal plants. Studies conducted by Prof. K.G. Tkachenko, mainly concerned with the study of individual growth and development (ontogeny) of plants, the characteristics of flowering (antecology), fruits and seeds quality (different aspects of the latent period, germination, heterocarpous, heterospermia, conditions and duration of seed storage, seed viability, fruit and seed quality, fluoroscopy (R-x) of seeds and fruits). At different times he organized the study of the accumulation, isolation and determination of the component composition of the essential oils of plants of a number of species of the families Asteraceae, Apiaceae, Lamiaceae and species of several other families. He carried out studies on the biological activity of essential oils - antimicrobial, antifungal and antiviral activity of the extracted essential oils was shown. In 1986 he defended his thesis for PhD. In 2013 he defended his doctoral dissertation.

Since 1987, Prof. K. Tkachenko leads the group of introductions of useful plants and since 2007 he also leads the seed laboratory at the Peter the Great Botanical Garden of the Komarov Botanical Institute. Now his position is Professor.

Prof. K. Tkachenko is a member of the editorial boards of several Russian and some foreign scientific journals. He is an expert of the Russian Academy of Sciences in the field of medicinal, aromatic plants and seed science issues. Prof. K. Tkachenko is the author of several patents, a number of monographs (25) about medicinal and aromatic plants, and scientific articles (approximately 300). He often makes scientific reports at international scientific events (conferences, congresses etc.) as in Russia, also in a other countries.
